Efficient refrigeration equipment LAC
UNEP has established the Efficient Appliances and Equipment Global Partnership Programme to provide tailored assistance to governments to facilitate the permanent transition to energy-efficient products. Partners to the initiative include the United Nations Development Programme, the International Copper Association, CLASP and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Report on Efficient Cooling Products in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Efficient Appliances and Equipment Global Partnership Programme together with the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) has released a report that assesses the economic and climate impact of cooling appliances in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
If all countries in the region were to adopt and implement energy efficiency standards for refrigerators, air conditioners and ceiling fans, 140 terrawatt hours could be saved annually. This represents about 11 per cent of the region’s current electricity consumption and approximately 20 billion US$ in reduced consumer electricity bills. GHG emissions could be reduced by 44 million tonnes, equivalent to taking 24 million passenger cars off the road.
Country Cooling Assessments:
The country cooling assessments provide individual country savings and policy status for cooling products (refrigerators, air conditioners and ceiling fans) in every Latin American and Caribbean country.
