La Oficina de Coordinación de Asuntos Humanitarios (OCHA) instó hoy a los países a abandonar el enfoque actual de reacción ante las crisis y desastres naturales y a priorizar la anticipación y la prevención de las causas que provocan esos eventos.

Los impactos del calentamiento global ya son visibles en todos los continentes y en todos los océanos, alerta el último informe del Panel Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Climático (IPCC), que dibuja un panorama futuro muy lúgubre si los líderes mundiales no actúan a tiempo. De no adoptar medidas, el texto prevé que durante este siglo aumente el desplazamiento de poblaciones, sobre todo en zonas litorales que se verán afectadas por la subida del nivel del mar, las inundaciones y la erosión de las costas. El informe también alerta sobre el descenso de las cosechas, la extinción de especies y la degradación de los ecosistemas. Y apunta incluso al riesgo de que se produzcan conflictos violentos o guerras civiles.

The tenth Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group II (WGII-10) and 38th Session of the IPCC (IPCC-38) endorsed the findings of the second part of the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) addressing climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability.
